Joey Wylde - Hit The Drink

Joey Wylde

Hit The Drink

Acoustic Rock/Modern Rock

"Hit The Drink is a great example of modern songwriting. Full of relevant references and a crystal clear production it's a song that sits perfectly in the middle of a playlist."

The artist

Joey is a singer songwriter from the Isle of Man. He studied contemporary music in London and recorded Hit The Drink in Beat Street Studios in Leeds. After winning Manx Stars in Their Eyes at 16 he quickly picked up the guitar and has since been playing locally on the pub circuit.

The song

Hit The Drink starts with an easy listening style acoustic pattern that quickly builds into the bigger overall sound via bass and drums. Staccato strings echo over the the first lyric in a melody similar to In The Hall of the Mountain King (you know the song). A harmonic rings out at the starts of the second section filling the sound out hugely. Sound effects make a tasteful appearance and then fade away. Rinse and repeat the above till we deviate towards a wah solo. The song then meanders down towards an epic building section that climaxes beautifully. The chorus then walks us right out the door. Great example of pop songwriting.

The verdict

Hit The Drink is a great example of modern songwriting. Full of relevant references and a crystal clear production it's a song that sits perfectly in the middle of a playlist. The dynamic sections add intrigue without alienating the average listener. Get it saved on your driving playlist.
